An Expert Family Lawyer Can Handle Complex Custody Cases

As an expert family lawyer, I work with a lot of couples that have children and are getting a divorce.  This is typically the most complicated type of divorce because custody situations can be challenging for a judge to decide, and they can bring out the worst in people.  If you and your ex are heading towards a nasty fight, you need to hire an expert attorney right away because the future of your kids depends on it.  After all, a judge will eventually decide where they live and who they are with every single day.  Since the judge will never meet your kids, this is often decided based on the evidence presented by your attorney.

Some law firms shy away from complicated custody cases, but we welcome them.  Whether you are seeking full custody, looking to relocate or just want a divorce, we can help.  We will begin by meeting with you to discuss the various aspects of your relationship, divorce and what you want the outcome to be.  This is the first place to start.  We need to know what you want so that we can create a strategy around getting it.  The sooner that you can come in, the better since it will allow us to work with you and plan ahead.  There are steps that you can take now that will either help your case or make it harder to win, and we want you to win.

We are an expert family lawyer and can create a full strategy to help you to get as much time with your kids as possible.  As an experienced attorney, we do want to warn you that it doesn’t matter if you are the mom or dad anymore.  A judge will look at each parent equally so we must build a case with evidence to show why you are the better parent and how living with you is in the best interest of the children.  That is one phrase you cannot forget, “best interest of the children”.  The judge will not care what is in your best interest so your argument cannot center around your needs.

One thing that you will want to be sure to do is to set a parenting plan now that you can live with.  Many people make the mistake of thinking that they can set and change their plan. While this is technically true, most judges will certify the existing plan because it is the status quo, and they don’t want anything to change for the kids.  That means that you need to avoid agreeing to a temporary plan that you don’t want to live with for the long-term.  Additionally, do whatever you can to stay in the family home because this will give you another advantage in court.  After all, the judge will view a move as disrupting the kids’ lives.

If you are getting a divorce and have kids the best advice we can give you is to hire a family lawyer immediately.  Don’t take anything for granted because the future of your children will be set during your divorce.
